GRIN vs Tano: software you run, or a programme run for you?

GRIN is creator marketing software that a brand's own team runs. Tano is a creator programme partner: it pairs specialist AI agents with a senior in-house team to run an always-on creator programme for a brand.

GRIN works well for a large in-house creator team that wants one low-cost tool and to make every decision itself. Its free plan makes it an easy place to start.

Tano is built for the stage after that: a programme that has to grow faster than the team running it, across hundreds or thousands of creators.

Two ways to run a creator programme

GRIN: one tool for the whole workflow, operated in-house

GRIN is creator management software that covers the whole workflow in one platform: finding creators, gifting and contracts, tracking and payouts. Creators come from GRIN's search or the GRIN Marketplace, a network of more than 700,000 creators on a free app.

In May 2025 GRIN added an AI agent, Gia, which is included in their Starter plan and above. Gia works like a copilot inside the software: it prepares work and recommends next steps, and in GRIN's words, “Gia makes the recommendation, but you make the call.” Your team approves “consequential actions involving messages, money, contracts, or brand risk”, sets terms, handles counter-offers, and keeps “strategy, relationships, and the creative work”.

GRIN is priced as software. Plans run month to month from free to $1,000 a month, which is the licence fee; Gia's work beyond each plan's monthly credits is billed on top at $0.10 a credit. The people who run the programme come from your own team; GRIN states it does not sell a services team.

Tano: specialist agents and a senior team running the programme

Tano is a creator programme partner: it pairs specialist AI agents with a senior in-house team to run an always-on creator programme for DTC brands. Tano focuses on building performance-powered creator communities around your brand and product. Its AI runs sourcing, vetting, content quality analysis and reporting; outreach, briefing, contracting and gifting run as agent workflows from day one; and an agent speaks for your brand to creators. Tano's in-house strategists oversee the programme end to end, negotiate rates, and manage usage rights and whitelisting. Every programme has a named account lead who is your point of contact and leads the programme strategy.

Tano builds programmes focused on two objectives:

  1. Creative volume for Meta and TikTok
  2. New customer acquisition and revenue

Sourcing matches creators to your buyer personas, brand fit and performance signals across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, drawing on roughly 250 million creators, including independent and up-and-coming creators who are not on any marketplace. The agents vet each creator's content for brand fit and tone, at a volume no in-house team could check by hand.

The programme runs as a lifecycle, built to grow a performance-powered creator community around your brand. Tano uses each creator's performance and history to decide the next action: who needs a reminder, who is ready for another product, who is posting but not converting, who should move up a tier, and which content is worth using in paid social. Creators stay independent, and the relationships, data and content rights stay with your brand if you leave.

How are GRIN and Tano different?

Who runs the programme?

With GRIN, your team does. Gia provides support, but your team approves every invitation, contract change and payout, and negotiates terms with each creator. With Tano, a blended team of agents and creator marketing experts runs sourcing, outreach, negotiation and payments. Your team approves the strategy and keeps the final say on creative and the highest-value creator moments.

One general agent, or specialist agents?

Gia is a single agent that works across GRIN's jobs, from recruiting and outreach to deliverable review and retention, and you buy its work in credits. Tano runs specialist agents for each separate job: sourcing and vetting, outreach, briefing and contracting, gifting, content quality analysis and reporting. An orchestrator agent coordinates them, moving each creator from one stage to the next and deciding which agent acts next, and Tano's team oversees the whole system. The result with GRIN is a capable platform with an assistant for your team; the result with Tano is a programme run for you by Tano's team and agents, which gets better over time.

Where do the creators come from?

GRIN gives your team creator search and a marketplace of more than 700,000 creators. Tano recruits for you from roughly 250 million, matched to your buyer personas and brand fit, including creators who have never joined a marketplace.

What are you paying for?

With GRIN you pay for software and activity. In GRIN's words, you “pay for the work she does”: credits are used each time Gia sources, messages, reports or sets up a campaign, whether or not that work turns into sales, and GRIN takes no share of the revenue your creators generate. How the programme performs is down to your team.

With Tano you pay for a running programme. Programmes start at $3,000 a month, and Tano earns a share of the affiliate commission the programme generates, so it is paid on performance. Tano runs the programme, and part of what it earns depends on how well the programme performs.

Common questions

Is Tano an alternative to GRIN?

Yes. Both run a direct creator programme for a brand, so most brands use one. GRIN gives your team the software to run it; Tano runs it for you with specialist agents and a senior team.

Can GRIN's AI agent run a creator programme on its own?

No, and GRIN does not claim it can. Gia prepares and recommends, and your team approves every action involving messages, money, contracts or brand risk. GRIN says your team keeps strategy, relationships and the creative work, and it does not sell a services team to do that for you.

How is Tano's AI different from GRIN's Gia?

Gia is one general agent inside a tool your team operates, paid for in credits. Tano runs specialist agents for sourcing, vetting, outreach, contracting, gifting, content review and reporting, overseen by a senior team that also negotiates rates and manages rights. You get a running programme instead of a queue of recommendations to approve.

When does it make sense to move from GRIN to Tano?

When the programme outgrows the hours or the experience of the people running it. GRIN's free and low-cost plans make it an easy place to start. Once you want hundreds or thousands of creators active and would rather hand off sourcing, negotiation and follow-up, Tano is the better fit.

How much does GRIN cost compared with Tano?

GRIN's plans are Free, Starter at $200, Growth at $500 and Scale at $1,000 a month, month to month, with Gia's work metered in credits and extra credits at $0.10 each. Programmes start at $3,000 a month, and Tano earns a share of the affiliate commission the programme generates, so it is paid on performance. GRIN is cheaper as software; Tano's fee covers the agents, the team running them and the sourcing.

Are GRIN's and Tano's incentives aligned with the brand's?

They are set up differently. GRIN is paid for Gia's work through credits, whether or not that work produces sales, and takes no share of revenue. Tano earns a monthly fee plus a share of the affiliate commission the programme generates, so part of its income depends on your creators selling.

What are the alternatives to GRIN?

If you want different software for your own team to run, Modash, Upfluence and Aspire are examples. If you want someone else to run the programme, the options are an agency, a platform's managed service, or a creator programme partner such as Tano. Marketplaces such as LTK and ShopMy give access to creators already selling through them, and many brands run one alongside a direct programme.

Does GRIN offer a managed service?

Not as of September 2026. GRIN launched Professional Services, including a fully managed option, in October 2023, but its comparison pages now state that it does not sell a services team.

Who owns the creator relationship with GRIN or Tano?

Neither owns the creator: creators stay independent. With GRIN, the programme history sits in the brand's own GRIN account. With Tano, the programme is brand-owned, so the relationships, the data and the content rights stay with the brand if it leaves.

How soon can creators be posting?

GRIN says a brand can launch a first campaign in as little as 10 minutes, and after that the pace depends on your team's time. Tano onboards the first creators in the first days of a programme, typically with first creators live less than 24 hours after onboarding, and builds from there tier by tier.
